Not so much anymore! I didn't think my 30th Birthday was going to hit me as hard as it did. I'm so used to being the young one in the crowd and I'm starting to realize that that's just not the case anymore. At all. Take that with a body that was tortured through sports for years on end, given birth to two beautiful babies, and more gray hairs than I can count....I feel OLD! Not super old, but with all the aches and pains of these days, it's depressing to think about what I'll be like in 30 more years!
So instead, I'll chose not to!
My birthday fell on the day after the Tim McGraw concert that we already had tickets to, so that's how I decided to celebrate. We got a sitter, met up with a bunch of friends, had an awesome tailgating party with brats, chicken skewers, fruit, drinks, and cupcakes. All made by my wonderful husband! - Well, my mom was gracious enough to cut up the fruit and ice the cupcakes for him - but it was all wonderful and I appreciate both of their efforts!
You'd think I would have been excited for the evenings events, but Friday was just not my day. I wasn't feeling too great and was just in a horrible mood. It was Bobby's last day at Cobra PUMA, so he had to run in and finish up one last thing. By the time he got home, I didn't even want to go. I had nothing to wear, like always, I couldn't turn my mood around to save my life, I never got a chance to get a pedicure, and I just wanted to curl up in bed and cry. Lovely, right? Good thing my husband is the man that he is. He walked in our bedroom door as I was doing my hair and just let me cry and whine and make no sense at all. He wrapped his arms around me and told me that we didn't HAVE to go if I didn't want to, but that he hoped I was able to turn things around.
Weirdly enough, that was all I needed. I shed a few [dozen] tears, fell into his open arms and I was as good as new. I was ready to go and my funk was no more!
The whole evening was a ton of fun - even standing in line for a port-a-potty for 45 minutes - but in the end, I was reminded of just how old I was getting. When we attend these concerts, we have always purchased "Lawn Seats" and bring blankets and chairs and just hang out on the lawn. It was always much more fun with a group of people instead of having assigned seats and only really getting to enjoy the experience with the people on your left and right. Well...after seeing a guy peeing behind my chair, another guy emptying the contents of his stomach into a cup and continuing to drink out of his flask, and being pushed and shoved and run into more times that I can count...I think maybe it's time to start buying actual SEATS! And maybe I'll invest in a set of earplugs while I'm at it!
Regardless, we had a great time!
Saturday morning, my actual Birthday, the girls slept in till an hour that I didn't ever think was possible - B woke up at 9:15!!! - and we spent the day hanging around the house relaxing. We went to my favorite Mexican restaurant in Downtown Carlsbad, Las Olas, for dinner, got some frozen yogurt on the way home and then we all crashed...cause we're OLD!
